At Mt. Kenya Network Forum, we believe empowering communities and organizations is key to effective climate action. On 7th October 2024, our team participated in an important workshop aimed at building the capacity of NGOs and CSOs on REDD+, carbon markets, and climate finance.
The workshop covered critical topics such as:
- Understanding REDD+ in Kenya: We explored how Kenya is implementing REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) and how local organizations can meaningfully engage in these efforts to protect forests and enhance sustainable development.
- The Impact of the Paris Agreement: The sessions provided insights into how global agreements like the Paris Accord shape national and local climate strategies, from emission reduction targets to funding opportunities that communities can access.
- Strengthening Collaboration: A major focus was on fostering partnerships among NGOs, CSOs, government agencies, and the private sector to scale up climate solutions effectively.
- Community Inclusion through GESI and FPIC: Inclusivity was emphasized through Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) and Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) principles, ensuring that climate action respects and uplifts all community voices, especially marginalized groups.
Our participation reinforces Mt. Kenya Network Forum’s commitment to driving climate action, strengthening community resilience, and promoting social justice. As we move forward, we are excited to apply the knowledge gained to support communities across the Mt. Kenya region and beyond.
Together, we can build a greener, fairer future!
